Throwback Thursday: Celebrating Table Mountain with legacy frames
In 2011 Table Mountain was officially named one of the New7Wonders of Nature, a mark of pride for Capetonians and South Africans alike. As part of the New7Wonders legacy project, a series of “legacy frames” was installed at iconic Cape Town locations to celebrate Table Mountain and to provide visitors with the perfect framed backdrop to take a picture of themselves, friends and family with the mountain in the background.

Recognised as part of the programme for World Design Capital 2014, the frames are located at Signal Hill, the V&A Waterfront, Eden on the Bay, Cape Town Station, Harrington Square, Heritage Square and Lookout Hill in Khayelitsha.
The 2.8m-tall by 4m-wide frames, produced by local artist Porky Hefer, have proven extremely popular with tourists and locals. Since their inauguration, thousands of people have climbed on top of the big structures to ensure perfect snapshots with Table Mountain in the background (even Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille!). This year some of the frames were repainted to ensure the brightest hue of yellow for loyal admirers and to commemorate the five-year anniversary of the New7Wonders of Nature.
We love sharing pictures celebrating Table Mountain through the legacy frames, and encourage everyone to join in the fun by sharing their memories with us, too.

It’s easy as one, two, three! Just take a snap with you and Table Mountain at one of the yellow frames, share it on social media, and tag us at @TableMountainCa on Instagram and Twitter, or upload your pictures directly to the website!
