Where can I get my Cable Card?

The Cable Card is for sale at the Cableway Visitor Centre situated at Table Mountain Cableway’s Lower Cable Station.

Office hours: 08h30 to 16h30 Monday to Sunday (including public holidays).

Frequently asked questions

I will be turning 18 next month. Can I still buy the child card?

Yes, you can. Your age at the time of the application applies.

What is the difference between buying an individual Adult Cable Card or Child Cable Card, and buying an Adult and child combo Cable Card?

When buying an Adult and child combo Cable Card, you pay a reduced fee on the child rate. Any additional children will pay the normal rate.

The Adult and child combo Cable Card must be purchased at the same time, as an Adult Cable Card cannot be upgraded at a later stage to include a child at the combo price.

If I buy a Child Cable Card, must the child(ren) be related to me?

No, the child does not have to be related to you, but they must accompany you when you purchase the card.

How long does it take to issue the Cable Card once I have applied?

The card will be issued immediately once payment has been received.

Can foreigners buy the Cable Card?

Yes, the Cable Card is available to foreigners. They need to provide a valid passport as proof of identification.

Will I be allowed access to the Table Mountain Cableway if I do not have my Cable Card with me?

No, you will not be allowed access if you do not have your card with you. You will have to purchase a ticket from the ticket office.

Must the Cable Card be produced to gain access?

Yes, your card must be produced in order to verify your identity the photo on the card.

Do I have to bring my ID or Passport with me every time I come up to the mountain?

Yes, you should carry valid identification with you as you may be asked to produce it.

Can I use my Cable Card more than once a day?

No, the card allows only one trip up and/or down on the Cableway per day. Please note that the Cable Card cannot be used twice going up or twice coming down on the same day either.

What happens if I arrive at the top and the Cableway is closed?

Our normal operating rules apply and you would have to walk back down.

What must I do if I lose my Cable Card?

Contact the Cableway within 30 days via telephone on +27 (0)21 424 0015 or on email via cablecard@tablemountain.net to arrange for a new card.

Please note that a R50 replacement fee is payable.

When and where can I purchase my Cable Card?

You can purchase your Cable Card from the Table Mountain Cableway Visitor Centre, situated at the Lower Cable Station. We are open seven days a week (including public holidays) between 08h30 and 16h30.

How do I go about renewing my card?

The cardholder is entitled to renew his/her Cable Card annually on or before the day of expiry. This can only be done at the Cableway Visitor Centre.

What happens if I give my Cable Card to someone else?

Cable Cards are not transferable and this is seen as a serious offence. Any Cable Card found in the possession of someone who is not the rightful owner will be confiscated and cancelled.

Can I buy the Cable Card as a gift?

This option is not yet available but will be in the near future.
