Table Mountain welcomes a special visitor
But on Friday, November 2, Table Mountain Cableway was pleased to welcome 102-year-old Anni Ulrich – one of the Cableway’s oldest visitors.
With her official birthday having taken place on Sunday, November 4, the humble and soft-spoken pensioner’s daughter Elke Frantz took advantage of the great weather to treat her mom to a trip in the cable car to the summit of Table Mountain as one of her birthday celebrations, and we believe Anni has certainly earned the right to have as many birthday celebrations as she desires.
Originally from Germany, Anni has been a proud South African for the past 20 years.
I managed to spend some time with this precious soul and took in some of her wisdom. Although she lost some of her eyesight two years ago, she still continues to enjoy and make the most of life. “You must be thankful and know life could have been worse,” she said.
When asked how she felt at her grand old age, Anni giggled warmly and said: “I never knew how 102 years was supposed to feel.”
And at her age Anni is still passionate about many things, one of which is cooking her favourite treat – Kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes) and we’re sure she included that into her birthday celebrations. Table Mountain Cableway hope you had a special birthday Anni!
Don’t forget that the Cableway offers a Pensioner Special on Fridays. Pensioners enjoy discounted tickets and can take advantage of the Table Mountain Café Pensioner Special.
