Romancing the cableway
A romantic moment on the mountain.
Whether you’re a guy trying to claw your way out of the dog box, or a girl looking for new ways to woo your man, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is one way to your loved one’s heart. We’ve put together a few ideas to help you plan the perfect date.
Lovin’ in the morning…
Plan ahead and prepare a breakfast basket with your beloved’s favourite breakfast goodies, and remember the bubbly and fresh orange juice.
You’ll need to be up early to be first in the queue when the Cableway opens in the morning, but the benefits outweigh the effort. You’ll have grand views over the dawn-fresh city and ocean as the car rises to the summit. On arrival, find a perch with a view and enjoy your al fresco breakfast together.
Lovin’ in the evening…
Take advantage of the Cape’s long summer evenings and catch the last car up the mountain. There are usually fewer people using the cars at that time. Keep your camera handy to record the ride – especially if it’s his or her first. If things go really well, the pictures might find their way into your permanent collection.
Lovin’ after supper time…
After an early dinner, skip the dessert and get your date to the Cableway before it closes. Bring a rug and that special pudding you packed ahead of time. Share at the summit while snuggling up on your rug.
To up the old-fashioned, romantic ante, record ballads by 50s crooners like Frank Sinatra onto your phone or iPod. As you step onto the viewing deck, invite your date to dance cheek-to-cheek with you while you listen to the music through shared earphones.
Play tour guide
Take the cable car up on a sunny day after having learned some facts about what you’ll see from top of the mountain (see our Did You Know? and FAQ sections for some useful facts to drop). Give your date a bird’s-eye-view tour, with you as personal tour guide. Afterward, relax over a cold drink or glass of wine and a snack or meal in the restaurant.
