Table Mountain Cableway closes for annual maintenance

Table Mountain Cableway will be closed for annual maintenance from Monday July 18 to Sunday July 31 this year. 

The 2011 maintenance plan includes major power line repairs and servicing the hydraulics and main motor gear box. Table Mountain Cableway is required to do annual maintenance to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV).

Three technicians from Table Mountain Cableway have recently returned from specialized training in Switzerland, and will be able to provide additional expertise in the maintenance of all Cableway services during shutdown. Andries de Vries, Gary Wright and Joderick Monzinger are now part of an elite group of Swiss Trained EMPA rope socket binding specialists.
“We operate one of the busiest Cableways that, unlike ski-resorts, runs throughout the year. This means that the 2 week maintenance period is a very important time of the year for us as we have a lot of work to complete in that time,” says Sabine Lehmann, Chief Executive Officer of Table Mountain Cableway.

The top station and the Cableway Visitor Centre at the Lower Station will be closed for maintenance, and Cable Card applications can be done when the Cableway re-opens.

Table Mountain Cableway offers visitors great specials before and after annual maintenance. Kidz Season offers free tickets to two children under 18 years when accompanied by a full-paying adult on weekends, public holidays and during the school holidays. The Table Mountain Café offers a Kidz Season Café Special: a pizza slice + a hot chocolate @ R26.50 (for under18 year olds).

Should your birthday fall within our closure period you may redeem this offer either one week before (July 11 - 17) or one week after (August 1 – 7) annual maintenance.
