Sabine Lehmann, CEO of Table Mountain Cableway Company, has won CEO Magazine’s 2010 Most Influential Women (MIW) in Business and Government award in the tourism and leisure category, at the MIW gala event at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg on July 30.
Lehmann, nominated by her peers, was considered the best business woman in her field of tourism and leisure. Judging criteria included human capital development; awareness creation of the tourism industry; growing sustainability in your industry; promoting world-class performance and maintaining best practice; and social responsibility.
“It is an honour and a privilege to be commended in this manner. Having started out as a tour guide 18 years ago, I have always felt that the tourism industry provides a wonderful opportunity for people to enter this dynamic field of business and ultimately grow as far as their dreams will take them,” said Lehmann.
The awards recognise profound and exceptional contributions women have made in their various sectors. The nominees were identified as making a difference in the lives of people across the country as well as making a positive difference in the business world, comprising the private and public sectors.
Previous winners of the MIW awards include Wendy Ackerman; Zarina Bassa; Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi; Dr Olive Shisana; Pam Golding; Professor Elain Vlok; and Gail Curtis.
