A beautiful betrothal
Chandon Mare and Nell King got engaged on Table Mountain on August 16
When Chandon Mare decided that Nell King would be the woman he is going to marry, picking a spot for the big proposal was a no-brainer.
Being proposed to on Table Mountain “was the way Nell wanted it originally,” says Chandon. “She’s been dreaming of it happening this way since she was small. My mother works for Table Mountain Cableway so I put two and two together … It was the perfect setting.”
Chandon’s mom, Samantha, is the Cableway’s credit controller and she’s the one who, together with Table Mountain Café staff, organised the snacks and drinks that were waiting on Chandon and his now-fiancée when they arrived at about 11am on August 16.
“We had some sparkling wine and then a buffet breakfast with fruit salad and muesli and all those nice things.”
It may have taken a while for Chandon to pluck up the courage to propose (the pair, both 22, have been together for five years and “I’ve been planning [the proposal] for a year now,” he says) but that’s not because he was short of reasons to do the deed.
“She’s my best friend; she’s absolutely stunning in every way,” he says about his future wife.
But what makes Table Mountain such a special scene for getting down on one knee? “The scenery, for one, and the way that everything operates up there – it’s absolutely amazing. You can’t believe the flowers and the nature up there, it is quite spectacular.”
The couple’s big day will be April 16 2011 at Sorex Estate in Centurion. All the best!
