Lucky number 7!

17 December 2010

Table Mountain is in the running to become one of the New7Wonders of Nature, but this Cape Town attraction is falling behind! The New7Wonders will be announced on November 11, 2011 and we need you to vote for Table Mountain online or via SMS as often as possible to ensure our place in the history books. Encourage friends and family to do the same – here are seven undeniably great reasons to do so.

Who’s got the best mountain in the world?

10 December 2010

Who’s got the best mountain in the world? We do! Our beautiful flat-topped landmark is Cape Town’s finest, most inspiring, most photographed, most loved attraction and so we’re quite excited about the United Nations’ eighth annual International Mountain Day, which takes place tomorrow, December 11. It’s only right that an entire day is dedicated to a thing of such great beauty, don’t you think?

The feng shui of Cape Town

29 November 2010

According to the ancient philosophy of feng shui, Cape Town is a most auspicious city. It has every component of a safe and protected city, as its configuration is that of an armchair: high protection from the back (Table Mountain), arm rests to the side (Lion’s Head and Devil’s Peak) and an earthen seat to the front. Add the wealth-creating properties of water and you have the ultimate feng shui city.

Get to the summit – the special way

18 November 2010

It’s going to be a hot summer – only mid-November and already we have sweltering mornings and sizzling streets. Summer in Cape Town brings with it that grand southeaster and sadly that means that sometimes the Table Mountain Cableway has to suspend operations for your safety and comfort. But, when the conditions are good they’re exceptionally good at this world-class attraction. The Cableway offers many affordable ways for you to get up to the top; here’s our quick roundup of special rates.

One year left until New7Wonders of Nature are announced!

11 November 2010

Today marks the one-year countdown to the New7Wonders of Nature announcement; on November 11, 2011 (a lucky date if there ever was one: 11/11/11) the New7Wonders Foundation will announce the world’s new natural wonders. To mark the occasion, Western Cape MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport Ivan Meyer was on the mountain today, supporting two Capetonians who have their own mountain to climb – Mount Kilimanjaro, that is, also in the running to become one of the New7Wonders.

We love these reminders of the past! This stunning 1940s photograph reminds us that the Cableway was around before most of us were, which is particularly meaningful since we recently celebrated our 81st birthday. Photo courtesy Llewelyn.
