Table Mountain Cableway will start upgrading its chemical toilets on top of the mountain from Thursday, April 26, 2012, weather permitting.

The Cableway is dedicated to lowering its carbon footprint, as well as helping to preserve the environment and its natural resources.

More than 200kg of waste was cleared from the ledges beneath Table Mountain Cableway’s top station yesterday (Wed March 21), with the assistance of 60 expert climbers and hikers.

This week marks the annual celebration of National Water Week.

Everything that is brought up to the top of Table Mountain is considered carefully, in keeping with the Cableway’s strict environmental policies and commitment to supporting local industries.

With COP17 (the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) still fresh in our minds, now is the time to start doing more to preserve our environment.

The year 2011 was a particularly good year for the Cableway. We hosted record numbers at the summit of one of the newly elected New7Wonders of Nature (visitors included Israeli beauties and WWE superstars), the mountain enjoyed snow for the second year running, and Cape Town even witnessed a curious cloud formation or two. Our Facebook fan page and Twitter profile became very popular and we gained many great new fans!

Table Mountain is famous for its incredible variety of indigenous flora. There are close to 1500 different plant species to be found flourishing on the slopes of this wonder of nature. The beautiful flowers and expanses of fynbos are a photographer’s dream, and visitors are sure to enjoy Table Mountain’s colourful vegetation this festive season.
