What does a journey to the top of Table Mountain entail? Have a look at this great video.

When Barbara Pahlana was a child growing up in Langa, Cape Town’s oldest township, she would look up at Table Mountain and dream of being on the top. “When I was a kid, I used to look up at the cable cars and wish I was in one. But it was just a dream.”

As cable cars ascend to the summit of Table Mountain, picture-perfect views of Cape Town and the ocean can be seen… escape the stress and worries of day-to-day life on the ground, and spend some time with your head in the clouds for a change!

Pedro Da Fonseca, Janita Naidoo and Frikkie van der Merwe all put together virtual picnic baskets on the Cableway’s Facebook page, and now get to enjoy real picnic hampers for two on top of Table Mountain.

A new day begins in the Mother City, as the sunrise lights up rises over Table Mountain on the first morning of 2012.

James Puttick put together a wonderful timelapse video in tribute to Table Mountain’s New7Wonders of Nature status. It really does capture the mystery, majesty and marvel of Cape Town’s iconic landmark. Great work!

Head in the clouds? That’s not always a bad thing, as can be see in the wonderful cloud formation above a glowing Table Mountain and shimmering Cape Town. 

The Cableway ended 2011 on a high note when it recorded an impressive 116 000 visitors this past December. Table Mountain’s recent New7Wonders of Nature accolade, stretches of good weather conditions, as well as the Cableway’s growing online ticket sales (with shorter ticket office queues as a result) meant that December was an ideal month for visitors to the Mother City’s famous mountain.

The year 2011 was a particularly good year for the Cableway. We hosted record numbers at the summit of one of the newly elected New7Wonders of Nature (visitors included Israeli beauties and WWE superstars), the mountain enjoyed snow for the second year running, and Cape Town even witnessed a curious cloud formation or two. Our Facebook fan page and Twitter profile became very popular and we gained many great new fans!
